چکیده

Isotopic and elemental abundance signatures in the mass range Sr through Hf have been determined in a silicon carbide-rich sample of the Murchison carbonaceous chondrite, using inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Despite the problem of isobaric interferences useful results were obtained for a number of isotopes, several for the first time. While disagreements between astrophysical predictions and earlier results for 137Ba and 146Nd obtained by thermal ionization mass spectrometry are confirmed, our data for Dy are in line with predictions. A hint is observed for in-situ decay of 107Pd produced in the s-Process. The elemental abundance pattern shows deficits relative to production ratios of volatile elements including the more volatile Rare Earth Elements (REE). Very refractory elements including the abundant (in absolute terms) element Zr appear to be underabundant relative to refractory REE such as Nd.

SIGNATURES OF THE s-PROCESS IN PRESOLAR SILICON CARBIDE GRAINS: BARIUM THROUGH HAFNIUM

Extinct technetium in silicon carbide stardust grains: implications for stellar nucleosynthesis.

The isotopic composition of ruthenium (Ru) in individual presolar silicon carbide (SiC) stardust grains bears the signature of s-process nucleosynthesis in asymptotic giant branch stars, plus an anomaly in 99Ru that is explained by the in situ decay of technetium isotope 99Tc in the grains. This finding, coupled with the observation of Tc spectral lines in certain stars, shows that the majority...

Supernova mixing to reproduce isotopic ratios of presolar grains

Presolar grains are considered to have traces in their birth before the solar system formation in their isotopic and elemental features. Most of silicon carbide type X (SiC X) and low density graphite grains show the excesses of 12C and 28Si. These isotopic features suggest that SiC X and low density graphite are originating from supernovae. On the other hand, elemental signatures of the grains...

Presolar spinel grains from the Murray and Murchison carbonaceous chondrites

With a new type of ion microprobe, the NanoSIMS, we determined the oxygen isotopic compositions of small ( 1 m) oxide grains in chemical separates from two CM2 carbonaceous meteorites, Murray and Murchison. Among 628 grains from Murray separate CF (mean diameter 0.15 m) we discovered 15 presolar spinel and 3 presolar corundum grains, among 753 grains from Murray separate CG (mean diameter 0.45 ...

Polytype distribution in circumstellar silicon carbide.

The inferred crystallographic class of circumstellar silicon carbide based on astronomical infrared spectra is controversial. We have directly determined the polytype distribution of circumstellar SiC from transmission electron microscopy of presolar silicon carbide from the Murchison carbonaceous meteorite. Only two polytypes (of a possible several hundred) were observed: cubic 3C and hexagona...
